Co-curated by FunDesign.tv and Shin Kong Mitsukoshi (SKM), “Angels: TOMOKO NAGAO Art Exhibition” is now on view at the 3rd floor of SKM Diamond Tower, running through August 31. This captivating showcase features the iconic works and brand-new Angel Series sculptures by Japanese artist Tomoko Nagao, widely known as the queen of Super Kawaii art.
For the first time ever, the exhibition unveils four exclusive hand-drawn limited edition angel sculptures, offering a rare glimpse into Nagao’s playful yet poetic aesthetic.

The Birth of the Angel Series — Endowed with Profound Vitality
The Angel Series takes form through eight uniquely colored sculptural editions, each reflecting a distinct aspect of nature.
The pieces titled “Sunshine,” “Raining Drop,” “Emerald Sea,” and “Moon” symbolize natural phenomena, while “Forest,” “Pink Flower,” “Yellow Leaf,” and “Rose” represent natural ecosystems.
Each edition is limited to ten hand-numbered pieces, with every angel embodying a symbolic interpretation of nature’s diverse expressions. These eight visual identities serve not only as decorative forms but also as open-ended symbols—offering a rich spectrum of artistic meaning and imaginative potential.

Fusing nature and emotion through sculptural language
Tomoko Nagao’s Angel Series marks a poetic shift—from the grandeur of macro imagery to the tender role of micro guardianship. Through sculptural forms, she translates deep emotions into sensory, tangible experiences, breathing profound vitality into each piece.
These angels are more than figurative sculptures—they speak the language of nature’s rhythm. In their presence unfolds an eternal dialogue among earth, sea, sky, and the cycles of life. Each angel becomes a symbol of emotional resonance, reflecting the artist’s reverence for the natural world while also gently calling out to those lost in the urban din—to reconnect with nature, to feel the genuine pulse of life once more.

Material-wise, Tomoko Nagao employs polyresin combined with lacquered spray-coating techniques, imbuing each sculpture with a distinctive sheen and texture. Under shifting light and shadow, their vivid colors shimmer, standing out as luminous beacons within the exhibition space.
The Angel Series carries not only Tomoko Nagao’s deep respect for nature but also her belief in art’s timeless power to protect, transcend, and guide. By reimagining classical artistic language through contemporary emotion and symbolism, she invites art to leave the pedestal of mythology and enter the intimacy of everyday life—as a warm, protective presence we can live with and feel.

The Angel Series further expands into new oil paintings, as well as merchandise such as washi tape and other design collectibles. More derivative art products are already in the works, with the goal of letting audiences carry a touch of angelic charm into their daily lives.
